No one wants to experience a natural disaster, and we hope you don’t have to. However, being prepared for the possibility of one is a wise course. One simple way to do this is by having an emergency go-bag. Very often, disasters happen without much warning. Having a bag ready with essential items in it would be invaluable in such a situation. So, what kinds of items should be in your emergency bag?

Your emergency bag should contain enough supplies to last for around three days. Besides nonperishable food and water, you should also include some medical supplies, a change of clothes, extra medication, if you are taking any, copies of essential documents, and some cash, as it may be difficult or impossible to get cash from an ATM.
Are you and your household familiar with emergency disaster routes? Do you have a meet-up point in case you were separated and couldn’t communicate? It is a good idea to discuss this together so everyone in your household knows what they should do in the event of a disaster.
Some disasters require you to stay indoors and not leave your home, so it is also a good idea to keep some extra supplies of non-perishable food like canned goods and bottled water in your house.
While we hope you don’t have to experience this type of situation, it is always good to err on the side of caution and prepare yourselves for an emergency. It could be lifesaving.
