Okay, so this is a long title for a subject no one probably wants to talk about, but the fact is that the toilet is one of the most used items in the home and maybe one of the most overlooked. Were you aware that, on average, you will flush the toilet about 2500 times a year? That’s a lot of use. With that in mind, here are a few common problems with toilets that shouldn’t be ignored.
A constant stream of running water is such a common problem that you may not notice it anymore, but it is a big waste of precious water, not to mention a waste of money. If the problem persists in a home that uses well water, it will also place additional strain on the pump.
Damage to the toilet bowl. You may not realize this, but a home inspector will list the toilet as defective if it has a damaged toilet bowl. Be quick to fix any chips or cracks that form in the porcelain.
A simple check you can perform to find out the condition of the toilets in your home is to flush each one and observe the length of time it takes for the tank to fill up again. It should not take a very long time so, if it does, some maintenance may be required. The same can be said if it takes an unusually long time to flush.
