When you have a clogged pipe, what is the first thing you do? Some will reach right away for their drain chemicals and pour them down the drain. While this might work some of the time, is it really the best option? Not really.

Drain chemicals are strong, and they can damage your pipes as well as your septic system, even though they might be labeled as “Pipe Safe” or “Septic Safe”. They can also hurt you if you were to get splashed by them, and they are not good for the environment either. This is why using a mechanical method for clearing your pipes is better.

By mechanical, we mean using a plunger or a drain snake. These are basic tools, and you can get a cheap but fully functional version of them for home use.

So next time your water isn’t draining right, think twice before you grab that bottle of chemicals and consider the alternatives.
